Summer Quilting

28.4.11

I found the most fantastic fabric shop very close to where I work which is pretty dangerous for me... It stocks the most beautiful vintage reproduction prints, traditional fabrics and lovely things like buttons and ribbons. I have attempted quilting in the past although I never completed my project; this time I am determined! I have decided to hand stitch the quilt, primarily as my sewing machine is being temperamental but also I think it is more satisfying in a way to hand stitch. My design for the quilt is blocks of nine random green and white squares with a border of white around them. Since I have so much material I will be doing a double sided quilt with strips of fabric on the back.

Botany

26.4.11

Had some fun creating a little bouquet of lily of the valley and guelder rose. The lily of the valley smells gorgeous and the guelder rose is so pretty, I love this time of year.

Flower pressing

24.4.11

A few weeks ago I found this framed pressed flower arrangement in a local charity shop. I decided to try out flower pressing for my self with some forget-me-nots. They are really easy to press and hold their colour well. These took around 10 days to press. I used tissue paper and a stack of heavy books.
